Program Description
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is widely believed to be an autoimmune disorder that causes loss of myelin and nerve fiber, focal inflammation, and neurodegeneration. MS is chronic, unpredictable, and often debilitating. Disease activity usually precedes clinical symptoms, and continues even though the disease may appear to be in remission. Early treatment can help to slow disease progression and prevent irreversible neurologic damage. Advanced practice nurses and other nursing staff play an integral role in the comprehensive care of MS patients. This program offers a practical review of MS, including pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management. With a deeper understanding of the implications of starting disease-modifying therapy in early MS, nursing professionals will be better able to help patients with MS to formulate realistic therapeutic expectations and adhere to optimal treatment regimens.
Program Agenda (All locations)
